Details of Disappearance
Varvara was abducted by her father, Emmanuel Lazaridis. A kidnapping warrant was issued for the abductor on October 7, 2004. They may be traveling throughout Europe. After he filed for divorce in Lyon, France, a federal court in Michigan granted Emmanuel Lazaridis temporary custody of the child in November 2002, and later ordered him not to leave American soil. Authorities said he used an illegal, duplicate passport to take Varvara from the United States a few days later.
Emmanuel was known to be abusive to Varvara's mother. In Fall 2006, Varvara's mother met with her daughter during 11 visits to Greece, but she is afraid they will flee again. It is known that Emmanuel has taken Varvara to various locations, including Delaware, France, Switzerland and Greece.
