In 1882 Grant was named Grant Center by Andrew Squier, one of the area's first settlers. It was named after Ulysses S. Grant. In 1899 the town's name was shortened to "Grant". To see more of Grant, click the here. (http://www.newaygo-online.com/grant.shtml)
