In the 1830's, Tuscola County was first settled by New Yorker Ebenezer Davis, his wife and eleven children. Townsend North, also a New Yorker, was a lumberman who received 3,000 acres of Tuscola timberlands for building a bridge across the Cass River in 1835.
Fifty years later, forest fires ravaged the area but ironically benefited the county by clearing the land for agriculture to expand. Sugar beet production increased dramatically due to a "sugar bounty" law in 1881 offering one cent per pound for sugar manuafactured from sugar beets.

The Tuscola County Art Deco style courthouse was designed by Detroit architect William H. Kunl and built by Caro native, Cecil M. Kelly, in 1932. It is faced with Indiana limestone.

The annual Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival is held the first full weekend in October.

The Exchange Club meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the Brentwood in Caro from September through May and the 2nd Wednesday from June to August. The Exchange Club has adopted the national program of "Preventing Child Abuse" as well as projects in Americanism, Community Service, and Youth Programs.
