Walmart is a terrible company with terrible values. I have heavily debated this online as is but will post all my reasons for not liking Walmart and it's partner Sam's Club.
Suffice it to say I am not a fan.

I like walmart they have the best deals on their camping equipment, im hoping if they do come to lincoln park that they will bring some much needed traffic to the area.

I'm with you donnabird! We need something in our city or it's going to end up looking like a ghost town. It's not like we have all these different businesses knocking each other down to get into Lincoln Park! Walmart may help bring in some secondary business.

But Back before Wal-Mart becameThe Bully of Bentonville (http://www.amazon.com/Bully-Bentonville-Anthony-Bianco/dp/0385513569) , We used to spent a couple of hours in wal-mart parking lot sleeping while traveling, as time went on we discovered that a lot of transient people, alot of them where very friendly but were in need, made they home @ different Wal-Mart’s parking lot across this nation. Someday I will tell you where we stay now.

I have heard that walmart will let people that are camping make a stop over night but you have to get the managers permission, most people only do that when they are traveling across states and they need to stop for the night, they prefer you not fully set up your campers but they dont mind people stopping for the night, ive never heard of people making the walmart parking lot a home lol

Re: lincoln park Wal-Mart
i have just spent the last hour reading this forum to get up to speed of what is going on. here is some advice to all the lincoln park residents.
i am not a resident of lincoln park, but i am a resident of a town that made the mistake of letting walmart in. the town i live in is about the same size of lincoln park.
here is what is happening in my town. walmart moved in with tax breaks, the city paid for all road and sewer changes. they basical let them move in with no taxs and no cost but there building. now that they want to make a supercenter accross the street and change the walmart to a sam's club, and the city is not going to give them new tax breaks and pay for anymore road and sewer improvements so walmart is going to leave the community and leave a empty building there. and this all is happening right when there origanl tax breaks are ending.
walmart knows how to play the tax game.
so think about this there are many towns bording lincoln park that have just as many areas that walmart can build after there tax breaks are up in lincoln park. so you will never get any tax money from them.
second, crime is a real problem, we have had many attacks and even kidnapping attemps at the walmart parking lot, and walmart isn't taking any actions to correct this. and many say this happens anywhere, but at most other business they do something about it, meijers down the road put camera's in and even started a roving guard patrol.
third, traffic will be trerrible, i purposely take a different route to avoid going by the walmart, because traffic is so bad.
just trying to give you all a idea of what can happen.
Would you stay in a Wal-mart’s parking lot after hearing the above?

I dont think i would camp out in a walmart parking lot that defeats the perpose of camping for me, however i can see the convenience (sp?) of being able to park there and get some sleep before traveling more. Im not saying what this poster claims isnt true but i find it funny that people are worried about being kidnapped at a walmart parking lot because its walmart, we had a woman kidnapped and raped several years ago at Kmart which is where meijer is now, violence can happen anywhere at any time not just in a walmart parking lot, jmo..

My problem with Walmart has alot to do with much of Big Box stores but also some of those same problems originated with Walmart to begin with.
I have issues with the way the stores are designed. I hate how large they are and how accessible to walkers they are, once again this is an issue I have with almost all Big Box stores. When the store is set behind a large parking lot they are essentially forcing those who would prefer to walk to have to use a car to cross the lot safely.
I also have an issue with the origin of most of their products, the fact that they make a huge profit from products that come from China. The surge of products made in China is destroying our economy while feeding their bottom line. It also aids in the problem of oil consumption to ship those products here. Also the workers in China are treated unfairly by any standard not just those of American Unions.
I also have an issue with the tax breaks, abatements and just plain evasion that all of these companies do. They hide behind the fact that many of us believe that we need the business and therefore hand them a tax free business set up. I would love to not pay taxes wouldn't you?
Like I said much of my issues come from all of these companies and this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as my problems with Big Box go but I target Walmart because they are the largest and are forcing the market to follow suit in order to compete.
I appreciate our capitalist society for its pros but the cons are coming to light as we are beginning to see the effects of free trade with China and other countries who are tipping the scales in their favor by violating human rights and the use of products that compromise our health and well being all in the name of Low Price.
So Walmart may not be the only one but they are the biggest.
