This past Monday afternoon, Governor Granholm called for a recall "cease fire" as reported in the Detroit Free Press here (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001vxu8EnrTzyNejaUa-fIzWvK-49SJXnC0XBJS3ll2dBHyhaiSkhC4sD4CP-pttghsLxBLCI1JgIFxemTE1q3qcpaNzptRQmSdyNmSmAz6EkBS35RIiTQE5Do6kvtumPDrmBIsNifcUSSGEYsErXPBIS310xriTv98sYhoqqaO8_I=).

The problem with Granholm's cease fire proposal is that she is attempting to negotiate a political deal (according to several Lansing sources) with GOP party leaders and Lansing politicians - not with any citizen group engaged in recall campaigns. Granholm is simply incapable of understanding that citizens may actually have political power, and steadfastly believes that all political action begins and ends in Lansing with partisan powerbrokers.

I guess we will wait and see what the big announcement that Granholm hints is coming at the end of this week is all about.

Be sure to click on the 'view comments' link at the end of the story - lots of interesting reader comments. Especially the comment from a reader named Portnoy who writes:

The other day when I was minding my own business, a man walked up to me on the street and demanded that I turn over my wallet.

I refused.

He then turned a knife on me forcing me to give him my money.

Before he turned away, he said to me, "Look, I know you want to call the cops, but I need this money because I misspent all of my other money on items I could not afford. Now I am broke and, in order to pay for my overextended lifestyle, I need to take your money."

"I have your money now," he continued, "and you will never get it back, so lets just move forward from here on out. I promise not to steal from you again. Should you call the cops, you would only be wasting yours and their time and money pursuing me."

"Let's just move forward and forget that what I did was wrong."

"Ok?"

Portnoy gets it!
