Lapeer derives it's name from the French and Indian traders who traveled the Flint River. The river's rocky bed suggested "The Stone" or in French "LePierre", the English translation being "Lapeer". The Lapeer County courthouse, of Greek Revival architecture, is the oldest courthouse still is use in Michigan. It was built in 1846 by Alvin Hart, a state senator, and was rented to the county for one dollar. Today, Lapeer is a well-balanced community of farms, small industry, and urban residents, serving the industry of Oakland (http://www.infomi.com/county/oakland/) and Genessee (http://www.infomi.com/county/genesee/) counties.

Community Information and Links
Michigan Lily Festival (http://www.michiganlilyfest.com/) 4404 Third Street, Columbiaville, MI (810)793-5932
Each year in July we have a large town celebration called the Michigan Lily Festival. Although certain events on our schedule change every year, the idea is always the same - A Celebration!
Rotary International - Columbiaville (http://www.colrotary.org/) 4422 1st Street, Columbiaville, MI (810)793-7563
The Rotary Club puts on events from time to time and even helps out in the community. An example of this is a house that we have stripped the paint off of and are repainting. The woman who owns the house was on a low income and could not afford to do it, so the Rotary club did the work, and Home Depot of Lapeer donated supplies. We sponsor Christmas Tree sales in the winter.
