Listening to the news about the Detroit Zoo a few moments ago

They're talkin about putting a millage proposal out there to see if you want to pay more property taxes to help out this zoo

So, are you willing?

Personally I say "NO"

Me and my family go to this zoo and have no future intentions of doing so

I don't feel it my responsibility for paying for it either

Me and mine go to the Binder Park Zoo in the Battle Creek area

It's a great zoo in a great area and they "don't ask for my tax money" and yet do just fine

I guess it's not enough that everyone also has to pay for the two new stadiums downtown, but now the zoo

And, Cobo is also in our future taxes as well

Perhaps we should just sign over our paychecks

I don’t know about the logistics, but I thought that a good business move & a tourist draw would be to incorporate a hotel & water park into the zoo &the adjoining golf course.

There is nothing that could convince me to vote "yes" on a Detroit Zoo millage. There are enough donations coming in to keep this place afloat. And, even if there wasn't, I still would vote no. I am being taxed more than enough.

Harrison - Exactly how I feel. My money is running out. Who is going to help me when all the governments take whatever they want?

You have that right, LPT! We are getting hit while we are down.

I will vote a big fat "NO". I'm not giving anymore of our hard earned money to a city that does nothing but waste, and then comes with their hand outstretched asking me for more! Do as every other household in Michigan is doing....Make due with what you have! That city as a whole needs to learn to live within a BUDGET!!

And, we all know it is going to get worse for everyone before it gets better. (I just hope that people can hang on long enough...althought, I am not sure how long "long enough" is.)

It is definitely getting harder to "hang on." With gasoline prices so high, it is going to become increasingly difficult to afford to drive to work. People talk about taking the bus, but we have one of the worst mass transit systems here. I can get a bus from say, Lincoln Park, to downtown Detroit. However, if I needed to leave for an emergency in the middle of the day, no busses are running. But if I needed to get a bus from Lincoln Park to Troy, it isn't happening, so where is the alternative just to save on that one thing?
Carpooling? In my law firm, there are a couple of people that live in Newport and Huron Township; however, their hours are different than mine, so that doesn't work either.

What about our utility costs? I have noticed an increase in my electric part of my DTE bill. It was always around $25-30 maximum. Now it is in the $50 range. I don't even want to talk about the gas part of the bill ((&#@%)#).

Let's not even discuss our property tax increases, or grocery increases, or prescription drug price increases....you get the idea.

We are barely being able to afford the BASICS and the powers that be just keep piling it on us while they are living the good life.

What they are doing to us just stinks (I gotta keep it clean as this is a family rated site).

I wish, for just one week, they had to live in our shoes.

We are not thought about one bit...except that we "give" them our money, without any questions.

(Perhaps "they" are truly attempting to wipe out the entire Middle-Class and even the Lower-Class. But, "they" forget...we're the two classes that pay the bills. What are "they" going to do then?)

It stinks how our government leaders work/think: What's in it for me before my term expires?

Makes me more and more sick of the entire mess. But, what can we do that would be effective (and gain support from the fellow citizens)?

I guess it wouldn't be wise for me to post what they get once they leave office; I will have to ship blood pressure medicine to LPT in one quick hurry!

No need to worry about me, Harrison. I don't have high blood pressure, and am able to handle my stress levels. (Heck, if anyone lives in the Detroit Area long enough, most of us can handle it.)

It's just sick and disgusting what our government is doing to us...all for the sole purpose of "getting theirs while in office."

Thanks for the comment, though.
