I feel incredibly compelld to comment about Ashlee's abduction. 20 years ago, heck probably even, 10 years ago, any Law Enforement would have automatically listed Ashlee a runaway. This is because of her age. It wouldn't have mattered if family or friends insisted she wasn't the type, or, she was an "A" student, or she wasn't into drugs, etc. None of that would have mattered. Because she is 16, she would have been automatically classified as a runaway.

I can't tell you how many kids have been classified as runaways, only to be found shot, set on fire, strangled, you name it. And then the police apologize. Too late.

Still today, in this day of age, with the technology we now have, many law enforcement agencies (LEA) are STILL behind the times. Michigan is definately way behind! Many LEA's in Michigan have their own websites, like the State Police do. However, when you visit the Michigan State Police Website, you'll won't see an accurate amount of missing people or children. This is their listings: http://michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123-1589_31786_32000---,00.html and this is the listing for the National Center for Missing & Expoited Children: http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PubCaseSearchServlet?act=usMapSearch&missState=MI&searchLang=en_US See the difference? It's unbelievable! The Michigan State Police don't have any children listed as missing. And they only have THREE adults listed as missing! This is New Jersey's missing people list: http://webdb.state.nj.us/cgi-bin/njsp/mplist.cgi

Every 40 seconds a child goes missing somewhere in the world. 40 seconds! More than half of these children are abducted by a family member. However, some of those family members have killed their own blood!

I better close this for now. Otherwise, I'd probably make this a novel length post.

Mary,

That is truly amazing. I am very grateful that you have shed light on this. I must admit that I could easily see why law enforcement would slough these kids off as runaways. It is vital that we don't jump to prejudgmental conclusions. Thank you for opening MY eyes!
