Library building makes way for new retail

Today concluded the demolition of the former library building on Middlebelt and John Hauk. Construction will soon start on a new 6,000 square foot retail space. Watch this thread for details.

Will there be a new library or are they consolidating their services with another nearby city?

The library had to be sold last year due to extremely tight budget concerns. The books were moved to the Maplewood Community Center on Maplewood and Hubbard Avenues temporarily. Mayor Jim Plakas said at an address to the chamber of commerce that while he's still around he hopes to see a new state of the art library like Westland's Faust Library or the two new libraries in Dearborn Heights: Caroline Kennedy and John Kennedy.
