Total employment in Michigan jumped by 34,000 to 4,780,000 in April - the highest monthly tally recorded for the state since November 2001. Jobs in the leisure and hospitality industries recorded the largest gain of any major industry sector, increasing by 9,000 jobs, or 2.3 percent, since April 2004. Michigan's monthly employment levels have trended upward since early 2003.
