Here is something that really gets to me no matter how many times I see it.

The wife and I were at a luncheon today. It was in a restaurant and you ordered from the menu. Anything you wanted. The organization was picking up the tab.

I could not believe how many people did not finish their meal. Very few of them cleaned their plate. Most had a lot of food left on their plate. A LOT

And MOST who did not finish their meal did not bother having it wrapped up to take home. They had it thrown out. Perfectly good food tossed into the garbage.

You want to know what really got my goat? Most of those not finishing their plates, had dessert!!!

Does food mean nothing to people anymore??

Why would anyone order something and not finish it? I am talking about FOOD.

If their "eyes were bigger than their stomach" why not at least have the extra placed in a doggie bag? Why throw it out?

I grew up in a time when food was not in abundance. The tail end of the depression and World War II. You were grateful for what you had and you ate it.

I never knew what going hungry was like, but there were many times when I wish there was more to eat. We had our three meals a day, but that was it. There was nothing there for snacks. Or seconds during meal time.

People should be ashamed of themselves for ordering food and not finishing it. Many of these people did not finish HALF their lunch!! HALF.

I see this all the time. Everytime we go out to eat, I see people leaving food on their plate.

I cannot remember a single time I ever went into a restaurant and not clean my plate. Even if the meal was not all that great, I still finished it. And if I couldn't, you can be sure I would have it wrapped up so I could finish it later.

I cannot ever remember not cleaning my plate at home. Being at home I have more control of my portions and I do not put more on my plate than what I am going to eat.

And you can count on one hand how many times I have had dessert in a restaurant.

I eat meals, not sweets.

It's a generation thing I'm afraid. My parents generation would and did eat whatever they were given. I had an uncle who was in the merchant marine who would knowingly eat bugs, caterpillars etc. if they were in his food - weevils in ships biscuits were a treat during the war.
Food now is so readily available that people don't limit their consumption to what they need. They take what they want, and then leave what they cannot manage. Part of the blame lies in the "all you can eat" culture. You'll never ban such restaurants or force them to display posters of starving people on the walls. Education is the only solution, and good luck trying that!
