I've got a gripe that really cheeses me off. And from my research isn't even legal, but nobody does anything about it. And, man is it frustrating.
Ok, here goes. About a week ago I go to this place called the Dragon Buffet. It's a Chinese place on Eureka @ Dix. We had a group of us of about 20 people and of course since I use cash for hardly anything I ended up having to get everyone's $$$ but put it on my debit card because the lack of cash on hand because I was buying for another family as well.
I get up there pay and everything is cool. So, I thought. I check my online account as I make a practice of doing and guess what I find? These people at this place we ate added another 20% on the bill for tip even though tip was already included. I call them and all they can say is this is the way our system is set up. I told them this added another $40 to the bill. She says this is just the way they do things and the 20% they added will come off in 3 to 5 business days.
My understanding of the law is that a business can only deduct what I authorize them to deduct. My account was deducted for almost $40 more than I signed for and these people at this place know there system does this and yet they don't bother to inform anyone of this. I eat out in more than enough places to know this isn't something that's a common practice as the people at this establishment tried to convince me it was.
How is it that such a thing is allowed?
