Do I have the right to put into my body whatever I want?

Do I have the right to do what I want with my body?

1. If I am an adult, why is it illegal to take drugs as long as I do not get behind the wheel of an automobile? Drug laws have only made the problem worse. We have made millionaires out of 12 year old look-outs and taught a generation of teens in the inner city not to bother working at McDonald's, because you make more money in the drug trade.

2. Why is it illegal for a woman to be a prostitute. It is legal for two boxers to beat themselves senseless, but illegal for a woman to give pleasure.

3. This sounds silly, but why is it illegal to throw a dwarf in a bar game? If the dwarf agrees to be thrown, then why is it illegal? They say he could be hurt, but so could a football player. Should we make football illegal? They say dwarf tossing is degrading, yet the entire world is designed for taller people and dwarfs are degraded every day of their life.

4. Why are people trying to make abortion illegal again? It is not the decision of the woman to do with her body what she wants? It is her body.

5. Why is it still illegal for consenting adults of the same gender to have sex? Though the laws are seldom enforced, it is still the law. And who know what Morality Police of the future will decide to start enforcing those laws again.

6. Why is it illegal for me to burn leaves in the street? My dad did it when I was a kid. Do people really believe burning leaves in the street under controlled conditions really harm the atmosphere? If I let the fire get out of control and it catches someone's property on fire, then fine me or jail me. But why is it illegal to stand in front of my house and burn leaves at the curb?

7. If I have a disease that will kill me, why is it illegal to receive medicine from Mexico or other countries that could cure me? It would take the USA years to approve this medicine that I need today. If the medicine does not work, I will die. Does it matter I die looking for a cure?

8. If I am dying, why can't I take my own life? If I find out I have a disease and will die in a year, why is it illegal for me to die sooner? If I jumped off a building I could fall on someone. If I jump off a building, someone would have to clean it up. But if I look a poison and died quietly, why would it be illegal? There is nothing they could do to me if I was successful. But if I was rushed to the hospital and given an antidote, they could prosecute me for trying to die sooner.

Such laws are created to protect and control people.
1. If drugs were legal, then those with inadequate self-control would be stoned most of their lives, and would be incapable of looking after themselves, much less holding down a job, contributing to society etc.
2. If prostitution could be managed without pimps, enslavement etc., then I'd agree with you, but until then, I say ban boxing to make it fair.
3. Nope, sorry, I don't see why anyone should want to toss a dwarf, so I'd leave that law on the books.
4. I'm with you there. I know various religions disagree, but as you say, they are free not to have abortions themselves; they should but out of the lives of people who live by different rules.
5. Yup, another law that should go.
6. Different laws in this country, but I would guess that's a nod to the environmentalists. Trying to appear green without actually attacking the serious polluters.
7. Drug approval takes a long time because research takes time. America (and the UK) have tougher approval criteria to prevent horrific side effects coming to light.
8. Making suicide illegal is obviously a bit dumb - if I succeed, you'll never be able to prosecute me. If I fail, I probably need psychiatric help rather than prison.
There's a shorter answer to your question, which is that laws are made by politicians, and being cynical, I'd have to say they are trying to appease the electorate. They want to look caring, and claim they are protecting us and future generations. There are few American votes to be gained in legalising most of the items above, and a lot to be lost.
