Yesterday I was in the CVS and found a 10 dollar bill lying in the aisle. Other than the employees, I was the only person in the store at the time (my husband was waiting in the car)
I picked it up and was going to give it to the cashier, but I knew the owner would not be coming to look for a single 10 dollar bill
I was going to put it in my pocket, but that made me feel like stealing.
I decided to spend it in the store and consider it "found money"
As I got to the cash register, I felt guilty and paid for the items with my own money.
When I got to the car I asked my husband to drive me to JC Penny where I would put the money into a Salvation Army kettle.
When we went to church this morning, I prayed for forgiveness for even thinking about keeping the money.
My husband says I am being silly. (He even tried to claim it was his even though he never enetered the store)
I thought maybe I should have left it with the cashier in case the owner came back (I keep thinking the owner is someone who really needs the money)
Had it been $100 or more I would have tried to find the owner. But I thought $10 is not worth it to most people to come back looking for it
Had it been a dollar, I would have kept it and thought nothing of it. But $10 bothers me.
I am not trying to claim I have some high moral person. I just can't shake this feeling of stealing the money even though I did give it to charity.
What do others think? Should I have left it with the cashiers?
