View Full Version : Do Endorsements Matter?

With a bevy of various politicos stepping before the microphone in the last week I have to wonder how endorsements affect the campaigns.
I know personally most of them seem to deliver relatively small amounts of the electorate to candidates, but many seem to take each event seriously.
I will say there has been one time where an endorsement helped me decide between two people. But it was a situation where I highly respected the person making the endorsement. Is that a factor in your choices this year?
Thanks,

I cannot recall endorsements making any difference in my choice. I'm having a tough time deciding this year. I think it's going to come down to what ISSUE is most important to me rather than which candidate.

I don't base my decision on what groups endorse what player in the political arena. I look at the person's stand on issues and their policies.

I believe to some degree endorsements alter polling which can influence final vote numbers.
So indirectly it is possible.

I think it depends on who the endorsee is and if their views are respected.
I think you would be hard pressed to find any Republican Presidential nominee that would want President George W. Bush endorsing them right now.

One of the pundits on This Week with George Stephanopolis (it was his 47th b/day BTW) said that whoever the nominee is in the Repbulican party the will want, in some places, the President's endorsement because "will want all of those in Bush's 32% approval rating. 32% is 32%."
I wonder though how much they will want it. Maybe McCain would require it to get the social conservatives but not the economic ones.

It's funny you say this, Dragon, given the fact that Bush was on the news yesterday saying that he would be willing to "help" McCain. Yikes! I would be saying 'no thanks,' even though McCain isn't pulling in much of the conservative votes.
