College grads (up to age 65!) may find coverage through The Alumni Insurance Program
(alumniinsuranceprogram.com) (http://www.alumniinsuranceprogram.com/), which offers a variety of group health-insurance plans for many alumni.

Another way to have cheaper coverage is to choose short-term coverage. This covers your child or teen for one month to a year, and probably offers the cheapest possible premiums--as low as $50 a month. It will protect them against accidents and illnesses, but it won't cover pre-existing conditions, preventative care, physicals, immunizations or dental or vision care. Wayne County and Blue Care Network have teamed up to bring affordable health coverage to some of Wayne County's 250,000 uninsured citizens.

Their "two-share" program, in which the individual and the county share the costs of coverage, is open to as many as 1,000 adults between the ages of 18 and 30 and as many as 500 temporary and part-time employees of any age. The health plan--administered by Wayne County HealthChoice--covers preventive, routine, hospital, urgent and emergency care; ambulance, pharmacy, and diagnostic services, and dental and vision screening.

Both programs feature a $15 co-payment for office visits, $100 co-pay for emergency room visits, 50% co-pay for prescription drugs and a maximum of $1,500 in out-of-pocket costs. Young adults, who must be full OR part-time workers or students, have

a $250 deductible. The temporary and part-time employees have a $500 deductible.

Individuals pay $85 a month. The other half comes from federal money.

Members have access to BCN's network of preferred providers, which consists of every hospital in southeastern Michigan and 7,000 doctors statewide. Most of BCN's pharmacies have agreed to particpate in the prescription-drug program. BCN is subsidizing some of the administrative costs.

Enrollment begins Oct. 1st for Wayne County residents who earn $30,000 or less a year and who are not eligible for other health-care coverage, such as Medicaid. For information , call 800-935-5669.
